Crystallite: The Obsidian Chronicles

Smash your way through hordes of enemies for glory, power, and riches. Cooperation is key to survival, but in the end only one player will be crowned the victor. Master your weapons, master the power of the gemstones, and master your ultimate attacks. But beware, the rat king lurks below!

Role: Lead Game Designer (Team Nova)

  • Managed each designer’s tasks, communicated with tech team, and kept written documentation updated.
  • Designed levels using team’s custom engine with requested tools.
  • Prototyped level and encounter design on paper for an independent study that strengthened overall design of the game.

The Dark Waters of Serenia (WIP)

You are a water spirit, a siren of the sea, an undine from below. You are what separates land-livers from the sea farers, and above all, it’s your duty to protect the secrets of the deep.

  • Designed and developed a tabletop role-playing system for merfolk; a 3-tiered bestiary, unique underwater combat, and exclusive rules for human interaction.
  • Designed and developed a tabletop role-playing system for merfolk; a 3-tiered bestiary, unique underwater combat, and exclusive rules for human interaction.
  • Wrote 50-page book that contained the content and rules for a basic campaign.
  • Modified creative commons art in photoshop to further implement theme and complete a vertical slice.

The Cooking Show RPG Challenge

My 200-word RPG challenge submission for 2018. I’d like to dedicate this RPG to Gordon Ramsay. I’m inspired by his passion for cooking and the Craps Challenge on Hell’s Kitchen.

  • Wrote rules for an RPG in 187 words.
  • Made use of an existing television trope to design fast-paced, tense gameplay.

Jamie

Jamie is a narrative thriller game in which a sister is searching the woods to find her younger brother. Follow the clues to find him and drop bread slices to find your way if you get lost.

  • Designed mystery puzzles and missions in Unity (C#).
  • Designed levels to flow seamlessly through each section of the missions.
  • Wrote narrative and dialogue to match the content that guided the player through the puzzles.

Pavel’s Quest

A nomadic hunchback traveler named Pavel notices a series of campfires, and is led through the stirring snow to a mysterious lodge.

  • Designed level with unique camera angles to highlight specific paths in Unity (C#).
  • Scripted a camera controller to switch the view to multiple cameras throughout the level.

Hiking in Heaven (WIP)

Hiking in Heaven is the working title for my new platforming resource management game with exploration. It’s intended to be a poetic experience about nature and unexpected death. Since this is such a new project, below are my three pillars:

  • Design levels with Unity’s tile map tool to match existing elevation maps with elevation tracking in the UI provide a sense of realism.
  • Keep a minimalist visual aesthetic to influence the poetic and dramatic vibe of the story that pulls at the player’s soul.
  • Write and maintain strong design documentation and bits of narrative to pass to a narrative designer and artist.

The Princesses’ Escape

Once upon a time there were three sister princesses. One day, Clara is kidnapped by dragons for her magic. Normally, she would have been left for a handsome prince to come rescue her, however her sisters loved her so much they decided to go rescue Clara themselves. They managed to sneak into the dragon’s castle without any problems, but their escape is going to be a bit more difficult.

  • Designed level map to host walls and bonus areas to each side.
  • Designed a level-up system in which players collect dice based on their class (for example, the rogue gets two sets; one for melee combat and one for ranged combat).
  • Designed encounters to fit pacing between three unique dragon types and three classes of princesses.
